In many smaller businesses, the problem is so great that business owners cite the difficulty of managing people as the single major reason they don’t wish to grow their business; a crazy situation that needn’t be that way.
In larger organisations, the problems are more likely to manifest themselves through under-performance, high staff turn-over and, worst of all, high levels of customer dis-satisfaction.
Often the answer lies in a combination of better leadership, effective performance management, more rigorous recruitment processes that assess candidates on character and competence, better communication, effective appraisal and review processes and greater accountability.
